Savoie

Summer Vacation in the Savoie

Enjoy the French Alps.
The Savoie is located in the magnificent French Alps, south of the Haute Savoie, bordering Italy.

The region is primarily known for the extensive opportunities for winter sports, with plenty of excellent ski resorts, but it is also for the summer holidays, a region that is very popular.

The Savoie has an impressive nature to offer, in a mountain landscape with beautiful mountain lakes, and with plenty of activities and appealing events.

Two important things are during a holiday in this part of France, central.

First, the mountains, where many mountain sports are possible, ranging from hiking and mountain biking, to canyoning and paragliding.

On the other hand, the region is known for the numerous waters. The Savoie is for example an excellent destination, if you want to go rafting.

Authentic French mountain villages

Lots of atmosphere, and the French way of life.
The region is also known for the nice, typical French villages, such as the authentic mountain village of Aussois.

It should, however, be said that the resorts in the Savoie, often are specially built for the winter and sometimes may be a bit less attractive, partly due to the large-scale construction methods that have been applied here.

That does not mean that the villages can't be a good destination in the summer months. Many villages are relatively high in the mountains, and are ideal if you want to go into the mountains during the holidays.

A wine region.
What many vacationers also will not expect, is the wine growing in the region.

It is not a typical French wine region, but some nice wines can be found here, which often can not be compared with other French wines.
